Your Originality

Your Originality

According to Merriam-Webster, the definition for “original” is that from which a copy, reproduction, or translation is made, a work composed firsthand, a person of fresh initiative or inventive capacity, or a unique or eccentric person.

Have you ever noticed how often the word “original” is used when a product is being promoted? Ever noticed the word “original” printed on labels? Why the focus on “original”? Contrasting words for “original” are dummy, imitation, counterfeit, fake, forgery and an antonym for “original” is reproduction. The word “original” is being used often because there seems to be a lot of counterfeits, fakes, and reproductions.

When we think about our lives, being original is being who we are. We are not expected to imitate anyone but Christ. We are to be real, not counterfeit or fake. God created us for Him. When God renewed His covenant with Joshua in Joshua 8, He directed Joshua to build an altar with “uncut stones, untouched by tools”. God wanted the original stones for building.

Good news!!!! Today, we can bring our originality to God. He doesn’t want our imitations, forgeries or reproductions. He wants us just the way we are in Him. So, relax, enjoy your journey with God and be who He wants you to be. Trust Him to direct and use you. He wants you—not a reproduction of you.
